In Washingtonian Magazine's 2009 Very Best Restaurants issue, the editors describe Poste's cuisine as "the very definition of contemporary American cooking – by turns playful (a tartar on brioche that conjures a burger on a bun), light (a Kona-kampachi sashimi), and dexterous (a crispy sea bass resting on a fluffy brandade of cod and surmounted by a red-wine-poached egg)."

To take advantage of one of the most enticing outdoor restaurant spaces in Washington, Chef Robert Weland of Poste will be firing up his new wood-burning grill and inaugurating "Poste Roasts" on the garden terrace of the Hotel Monaco this month.

The Hotel Monaco is a stunning architectural transformation of a renowned national historic landmark, Washington DC's General Post Office building, also known as the Tariff Building. Designed by Robert Mills, architect of the Washington Monument, the structure was completed in 1842 as the first all-marble building in the city, and Thomas Walter, an architect of the United States Capitol, created the design for the extension on the north façade of the building. This extension, completed in 1866, was considered one of the most stylistically advanced structures of its day. Fully restored between 1999 and 2002, the Hotel Monaco Washington DC now showcases the historical significance and architectural grandeur of the original landmark building.
